English Australia is taking extra measures to support teacher recruitment for the industry, as we understand that this is a challenge facing our sector as we recover from the effects of the pandemic.
We recently utilised the Jobs and Skills Summit that is being convened by the Albanese Government to highlight the teacher shortages that are impacting the sector. Brett Blacker, our CEO, has also written to the Treasurer and key Ministers to reinforce the impact that the closure of the international borders had on member colleges, which led to the drastic loss of qualified teachers. Brett has also written to each of the State/ Territory Premiers and Chief Ministers to request that Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ANZSCO: 249311) be added to their skills to demand lists if it is currently not included.
We have also produced a video with some teachers from our member colleges explaining why being an ELICOS teacher is such a great career choice for new and returning teachers. Please feel free to share this clip with your networks and social media channels.
