Decline in ELICOS commencements improves to under 60 per cent
For the first time in 2021, the decline in ELICOS commencements is lower than 60 per cent. October 2021 YTD has recorded a decline of 59.6%, improving on September's decline of 60.0%. While it is a marginal improvement, it is still positive to see another improvement on February's record high of 68.6%.
Brazil’s commencements a little over one-quarter of 2020’s figures
Brazil's commencements are now 73.8% lower than those of 2020. As the ELICOS sector's third-biggest source market, Brazil has been of critical importance. Brazil's decline is particularly significant as it has seen the biggest percentage decline out of Australia's top-10 source countries.
All sector visa grants fall by nearly 10,000 in October 2021
The bulk of the decline in visa grants occurred in the higher education sector, which fell 18.7% or a little over 7,000 grants. This decline is a significant increase from September, which recorded a 10.7% fall.
Independent ELICOS sector visa grant figures for YTD October of 2021 are down by 81.7% or 11,181 fewer visas granted than in YTD October of 2020. This is on par with September's decline, which reached 81.9%.
