Market highlights
- Commencements from China are back in the positive for the first time this year, with an increase of 5% or 367 additional students versus YTD October 2021. Chinese students made up 13.2% of commencements within ELICOS.
- Commencements from Colombia increased by 212.9% or 6,411 additional students, and commencements from Brazil increased by 347% or 5,490 additional students.
- Growth from Thailand continues to increase, reaching 835.3% or 7,117 more students this month.
ELICOS only grants over thirty-five times higher
Independent ELICOS sector grants were over thirty-five times higher year on year, with 4,904 more grants.
Offshore grants for Independent ELICOS were up by 4,854 in October 2022, or almost sixty-eight times higher, compared to October 2021. Onshore grants for Independent ELICOS were up by over 11%, with 80 more grants.
ELICOS only visas granted to citizens from Colombia were 875 times higher in October 2022 compared to October 2021, with 1,750
more grants. Brazil was over 339 times higher year on year with 1,018 more grants, while grants to citizens from Chile were over fifteen times higher or 154 more grants, and grants were over 60% higher for Chinese citizens. Visas granted to ELICOS students from Thailand were twenty times higher for the same comparison period.
ELICOS only lodgements almost twelve times higher
ELICOS only visa lodgements were almost twelve times higher than in October 2022 YTD, with 4,503 total lodgements.
Top Nationalities Granted and Lodged
The top source country for ELICOS only lodgements is still Colombia, with 1,623 lodgements made in October 2022. The top source country for grants in October 2022 is Columbia again, with 1,752 applications granted.
The top three nationalities for visas granted are again Colombia, Brazil, and Thailand, with a combined total of 3,662 visas granted in October 2022. The top three nationalities for visas lodged are also Colombia, Brazil, and Thailand with a combined total of 2,925 visas lodged in October 2022.
However, grant rates in October 2022 for Thailand were only 47.7%, indicating that the Thailand figures should again be even higher still. Grant rates for other top source countries for October 2022 were 86.5% or higher.
