YTD February ELICOS commencements increased by 309.1% versus February 2022. Enrolments increased by 440.5%.
Market highlights
- Commencements from Colombia increased by 1,129.9% or 4,915 additional students, and commencements from Brazil increased by 993.1% or 2,304 additional students.
- There was an increase in commencements of 1,100% from Spain and 414.3 % from Mongolia for the same period.
- Commencements from China increased by 64.1% or 752 additional students versus YTD February 2022. Chinese students made up 9.6% of commencements within ELICOS.
- YTD February commencements increased by 62.9% across all sectors. Enrolments increased by 27.8%.
- The VET sector experienced an increase in commencements at 38.3% or 12,067 additional students when compared to YTD February 2022.
- The Non-award sector experienced an increase in commencements at 229.4% or 6,842 additional students versus YTD February 2022.
Visa trends:
ELICOS only grants up by over 118%
The Independent ELICOS sector grants were up in February 2023 by 118.76%, compared with February 2022, with 2,824 more grants.
Offshore grants for Independent ELICOS were up by 97.28% in February 2023, with 3,024 more grants, compared to February 2022. Onshore grants for Independent ELICOS were over nine times higher, with 571 more grants.
ELICOS only visas granted to citizens from Mongolia were over 25 times and over 11.4 times higher for citizens from Brazil in February 2023 compared to February 2022. ELICOS visa grants for citizens from Colombia were 5.2 times higher with 1,876 more grants, while grants to citizens from Chile were up by almost 96% or 117 more grants for the same comparison period.
ELICOS only lodgements over 8 times higher
The total number of Independent ELICOS visa applications lodged for February 2023 was 8.2 times higher than in February 2022, with 5,652 total lodgements.
