Managing mental health during a pandemic

Coronavirus COVID-19 has significantly impacted the ELICOS sector. Understandably, many people are feeling afraid, worried, anxious and overwhelmed by the constantly changing alerts and media coverage.

Students in particular may be feeling this way, especially as they are often vulnerable or more directly impacted by negative experiences and because they are far from their usual support networks.

Our webinar on student mental health and well-being can help you
English Australia’s Mental Health Special Interest Group (SIG) hosted a webinar on supporting students’ mental health and well-being next week. The webinar includes:

  1. touching base with our ELICOS community
  2. highlighting the main issues for our isolated students
  3. sharing useful resources for students and teacher.

This is a great opportunity to learn strategies you can put in place to support your students.

Resources for students and teachers
English Australia’s dedicated COVID-19 webpage has resources available for both students and teachers on mental well-being and coping during the pandemic.

Some useful resources include:

  • mental health fact sheets in different languages
  • practical psychological skills that can help you cope with anxiety and worry about infectious diseases like COVID-19
  • a fact sheet on maintaining good mental health during social isolation
  • and many more.

We hope that these resources help our ELICOS community to continue to support its students as much as possible.
